XR stands for “eXtended Reality,” an umbrella term that includes virtual reality, augmented reality, and mixed reality:
- Virtual Reality (VR) is an experience where users are fully immersed in a digital environment, typically using a headset such as the Quest 2
- Augmented Reality (AR) is an experience that overlays digital elements onto a user’s real world, using a mobile device or “see-through” glasses or headset such as the Microsoft HoloLens 2
- Mixed Reality (XR) provides an immersive environment that combines both real and virtual elements, and can be accessed using a headset such as the Quest 3
